John McCalla is the Chief Executive Officer of eServices, LLC. He is also responsible for the company’s risk management, hedging advisory and various consulting services.
John P. McCalla began his career with Dominion/Virginia Power upon graduation from college in 1981. He was initially hired as an engineer in the Telecommunications Department and eventually promoted to supervisor and then director of telecommunications engineering.
In 1995, Mr. McCalla moved to the business side of Dominion/Virginia Power to be cross-trained for advancement. He assumed the role of director of administrative services where he established the budgeting and cost tracking systems, along with coordinating the automation and staffing issues associated with a new area of business at Virginia Power known as the Energy Services Business. This area of business included energy marketing/trading and the introduction of energy products and related services. Additionally, his assignments included chairing a team that developed systems to track energy transactions, developing profit and loss statements to determine profitability of specific products, performing economic analysis including discounted cash flow and economic value added calculations, and producing business unit financial statements. This position reported to the Senior Vice President ‑ Energy Service Business and represented the Energy Services Business on a committee of six individuals that met with and made recommendations to the President and Senior Executives regarding budget and goals issues.
Mr. McCalla then transferred to Dominion’s trading business in 1996. He initially helped develop the mark-to-market and position reports while learning technical analysis and developing indicators. Mr. McCalla achieved early success in trading and was named the director of financial trading. In 2000, he assumed management responsibility for the entire natural gas trading organization (financial and physical).
In December of 2004, Mr. McCalla left Dominion to pursue the formation of eServices, LLC.
During his eight years of trading at Dominion, Mr. McCalla traded futures, forwards, swaps, and option on natural gas, electricity, crude and heating oil. He also managed the fixed price exposure for Dominion/Virginia Power and its subsidiaries’ natural gas portfolios, and structured and priced derivatives.
Mr. McCalla graduated from Virginia Tech in 1981 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He earned his MBA in 1999 from Averett University.
